  1. I liked Nicholson's early work. I remember "The Terror" from 1963 with Boris Karloff, and "The Raven" also from 1963 and with not only Karloff, but Peter Lorre, and, my beloved, Vincent Price.

It was after "Easy Rider" that I think I lost interest in his movies because I thought he was getting too big for his britches.

    A few notable exceptions:

"One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" was a good film, but not one I want to watch again. Too sad.

"The Shining" was a good film, but one in which Nicholson used his clout to manipulate the director into augmenting his character into the starring role. The book featured Danny, not his father, as the main character. Pretty cheesy thing to do, if you ask me.

I guess what I'm trying to convey is that I think Nicholson is a good actor, but in real life he's a schmuck. That colors his work for me.

  2. Cube - I agree about One Flew - being sad. I kinda feel the same way - about not watching it again.

I don't think The Shining is about Danny - but then I didn't read the book.

I don't like to have an actor's personal life to color my opinion about their acting.

I may not be able to write anymore on any of my blogs - as my d*psh*t husband had Blogger shut me down.

    Fortunately I can still comment.

    Thanks - Cube.

  3. Sue, RE: "The Shining" the book was better than the movie, but then again, I invariably think the book was better than the movie. I can't help myself. I'm an avid reader.

I try not to let an entertainer's personal life color their professional work, but sometimes it does. It's just a matter of chemistry. Sometimes I let stuff slide, but sometimes I don't.

How can I say this and not cross the boundaries of our blog friendship?... I'm a little disturbed about your husband shutting you out of Blogger. You can set up private passwords that he can't access. Are you allright?

  4. I'm ok. Thanks for asking - Cube. But it is the prospect of the Judge granting him PERMANENT guardianship that scares me. Many people have told me that it's not gonna happen - but who knows.

A woman from the Court will be Coming to assess the situation here at home - and it is my hope that she will see that in fact - I am competent. So I need to get my house in order and keep it that way - until she comes.

Nothing will cross the boundaries of our friendship - it is too important to me. And I expect you - and want you to say how you feel here.

I'll write about another movie soon. Maybe tonight.

Thanksk - Cube - for hanging out here.

  6. Also - Cube - he is a practiced l**r - and has started opening my private mail - saying that he has the right to do that.

I find that scary - and it upsets me.

  7. Cube - Ever see the DaVinci Code? Or do you even know about it.

If not - throw out a movie and I'll give my take on it.

  8. Would you be vexed if I told you I prefered The DaVinci Code book over the movie... I did, but the movie wasn't bad. I enjoyed it.

Please take care. Your situation sounds pretty scary.

  9. Cube - I could never be vexed at you.

Being a Christian- I was totally shocked the first time I watched DVC - and even turned it off when they started talking about Jesus and MM. Then I rented it again - and was only partly shocked.

But the third time I agreed with Tom Hanks when he said that the movie is just Hooey. And now - I have it on dvd - and once in a while I get it out and the hooey doesn't bother me. I simply love the ending. And all of it - really.

As far as my situation goes - I appreciate your concern. But I'm fine - thanks. I'm dealing with it the best I can.

Please continue to check my movie blog from time to time. I'll come up with another movie for discussion soon. I like your imput on movies.

    Thanks Cube.

  10. First, "mwah" at you that you could never be vexed at me :-)

Second, I'm a lapsed Roman Catholic... maybe that's why the film didn't upset me, besides I read "The Holy Blood And The Holy Grail" back in the '80's and so I was ready for it.

    I'm glad that you're fine.

I will continue to monitor your film site and, if you ever feel the need, please feel free to email me as well. You are a welcome friend.
