Isn't this a Great movie - folks.

especially when the camera is on Bruno Kirby.

  1. I liked this movie back in the day when I used to watch mindless comedies such as Caddyshack.

  2. Pretty lame. At a minimum I expect the director of photography to know how to move a camera.

Acting and a script are also important when you try straight narrative cinema. The humor is primarily what I call "laugh at the 'tard" humor. Just a lame effort.

  3. Cube - Good One about Mindless Comedies.

But ya know what - Cube?

I find that the Comedies these days are not so Mindless. A Couple of them that I love are
    Due Date and Ghost Town.

    And there are Others.

  4. Ducky - I have to agree with ya here.

I only got City Slickers because it was in the $5 section ($4.75 - Really) and I also noticed that it wasn't as good as I remembered.

Thanks for stopping by - Ducky.

  5. Ducky - While checking out yer movie list just now - and I've noticed this before - you mention The Haunting.

This is one f*in' scary Movie - that I don't even like to THINK ABOUT it.

Remember the part where she says - Stop squeezing my hand - and the Other woman replies -I'm not.

I'n not kidding - Ducky - it's getting late and it's freakin' freaking me out - even now.

  6. I remember the 1963 version of The Haunting. It was OK. I think The Ring is much scarier, especially if you're one of those people who always have a TV on even if you're not watching anything in particular.

  7. Cube - I totally agree about The Ring being scary. I just HAD to watch it - and I always regretted that.

But there is a difference between The Ring and The Haunting.

The Ring scared me because of the Special Effects - the little girl's face and the way her hair hung in her face - and the way she charged out of the tv. To me that was not Real - but it scared me.

The Haunting - on the Other Hand - was Real - in a Ghostly sense - in that indside of me I probably do Believe in Ghosts. And more than once that part has come back to me - and I have thought that I would die on the spot if something were holding my hand - and no one was there.

  8. My great aunt saw ghosts all the time. She was disappointed that I chose science and never followed in her footsteps because she said she could sense that I had a "calling" to the supernatural. I always told her, I'll believe in ghosts when I see one. I never have.

  9. Cube - Whenever you chose to share - I would be interested in hearing about your great aunts experiences with the supernatural. I believe in ghosts - but like you - I have never seen one.

    AND I DON'T CARE TO.

That is way I avoid movies with ghosts in them - with the exception of Casper and Ghostbusters.

  10. There were many stories about my aunt's visions, mostly they were kept from me when I was a child. One I do remember hearing was her waking up in the night to see a woman standing at the foot of her bed. The woman was moving her lips, trying to say something, but my aunt didn't recognize her and she couldn't figure out what the woman was trying to say. That freaked me out when I was little. I guess that's why the adults decided to spare me further details until I got older.

The single most spooky event I remember about my aunt occurred
when I was a teenager. We were sitting in my parent's living room just visiting when, all of a sudden, my aunt lept up and began waving her arms and then holding her hands to her mouth in shock. After a few minutes she calmed down and told us that she had seen an aura around me. I asked her what that meant and she said that I had a "calling" to the supernatural. I asked her what that meant and she said she could help me find my powers. Needless to say, my mom and I were freaked out by the incident.

I know I disappointed my aunt when I chose science over my "calling", but to me it was a no-brainer. God help me, I have had had many instances of exceptional intuition in my life, but I have always attributed them to my powers of observation.

Anyway, my aunt died a few years ago and, every once in a while, I entertain the notion that maybe one of these nights she'll appear at the foot of MY bed.

    Yikes!

  11. Cube - I believe that your aunt must have had some psychic powers that allowed her to connect with the supernatural.

And I also believe that it is your logical scientific mind - that keeps you from going the way she did.

And I think that your way is best. Especially since you have a family to take care of.

I believe that we can resist these supernatural influences - and I have also come to see that we can forge our own way in life - by calling on our own strong will - and for me - also depending on another Force - which I personally call God - but not everyone feels the same way - so I try not to impose that on others.

But - Cube - I'm glad she did not lure you over to the Dark Side. :] just kidding - and thanks for sharing that with me

  12. I don't mind sharing the kooky aspects of my life. Despite my scientific training, I still remain open to all possibilities. I do believe that the universe is stranger than we can even imagine. My only criteria is that the proof of the supernatural has to be made plain to me and I have yet to see any evidence of it. That doesn't mean it won't happen.

Funny you would talk about the Dark Side. Over the years, I have often donned a Darth Vader costume for Halloween. In fact, our neighborhood civic center runs a haunted house and, one year, when we came up to the door, the woman in charge of customer flow warned the people running the house that someting creepier than they were was coming into the house.

I've had kids refuse candy from me when I was dressed as Darth Vader.

I've also had people insist I take candy from them even though I refused it. One man actually bowed to me and pressed candy into my hand when he heard the message "What is thy bidding, my master?" from one of the buttons from my Darth Vader chest piece. He was obviously a Star Wars fan and couldn't get over my walking up him and having a canned response to his question. We got much chocolate that night :-)

  13. Cube - That Is Great Stuff - what you are saying right now.

In fact - if we ever meet - in person - and I hope sometime - to meet at least a few of my blogging friends - I will tell you my experience with the supernatural.

I said that I haven't had any experiences like that - but I have. You just don't go around talking about it - if ya know what I mean.

The think about Darth Vader shows that there are people who are strongly influenced by - what you might call superstitions.

And that is not necessarily a good thing - but it doesn't have to be bad either. It just depends - on a lot of things - I guess.

  14. Cube - Along with believing in ghosts - I think believing in phenomenon like that - goes the belief some people have in angels. I believe in angels - Cube - but I just don't dwelll on it.

I would not like to see an angel standing at the foot of my bed - someday. To me that seems a little scary.

But I do beleive in them. It just depends on what you Believe.

  15. I don't have that many supernatural experiences to share, but if I did, I wound't mind sharing them. The older I get, the less I care about what people think of me, but I do understand your reticence to go on the Internet and bare your soul. That is one of the reasons why I cherish my anonymity online.

You do know that I'm not really a polyhedron ;-)

I can't say that any apparition appearing at the foot of my bed wouldn't scare the beejeezuz out of me because it would. I think that's why I'd rather live in the realm of molecules and numbers... except that realm can get pretty existential
    as well.

There is an old saying in science... I wouldn't have seen it if I hadn't believed it. The world is stranger than we can even imagine.

  16. 'I wouldn't have seen it if I hadn't believed it.'

    I like that Cube.

Because it applies to me. With my supernatural experiences - I had NO TROUBLE accepting and Believing what had happened to me. Ever. But the problem came when I would try to share those experieces with Others. And that's when I finally realized that perhaps those experiences were meant for just me - and not to share.
